At some time or another we all mourn the loss and celebrate the lives of those we loved. The moments shared with our beloved hunting companions will live on in our memories and in our heart.
With empathy and compassion, this is dedicated to all embracing the promise of a richly abundant life filled with gifts and blessings.
Axa v.d. Reutereiche "Avery" was born on January 10, 2008 in Stavenhagen, Germany. That fall, Avery tested in the NAVHDA Natural Ability on October 18, 2008 achieving a prize I with the maximum 112 points at 9 months of age. She experienced her first season hunting pheasant, sharptail grouse and geese. The following spring on April 5, 2009 Avery tested in the JGHV VJP earning 72 points. As the highest scoring dog of the day she received the designation of Suchensieger. Additionally, all 6 of her siblings performed extremely well in their VJPs in Germany, each one earning between 68 and 74 points. But she wasn't just a very promising example of the consistent high quality of the German breeding program. She was my hunting dog I loved.
On June 16, 2009 at 17 months of age, Avery died in a training related accident. She continues to be missed. With her larger than life personality, Avery was an exceptional Deutsch Langhaar. Her most exceptional qualities were her nose and her tracking ability. Avery switched gears between searching and tracking with ease. She slowed down with deliberation and intense concentration. She moved forward methodically, not just following the direction the game took, but leaving no doubt every step it took. In her VJP, she continued to pursue a live rabbit track right past a roosting pheasant. Her intense pointing and natural retrieving instincts closely followed her unique tracking talent. Avery also had and extremely dense and tight fitting coat, an asset both in the water and heavy hunting conditions.
The memory of Avery and her exuberance for life will live on in a true testament to the heart of a hunter as vom Jägerherzen continues in the pursuit of excellence.
