Langhaar Committed to Excellence in the German Tradition |
|
| The primary objective of Deutsch Langhaar vom Jägerherzen is to place quality versatile hunting dogs in hunting homes. New owners are asked to respect the fact that the Deutsch Langhaar is an excellent versatile hunting companion as a result of stringent testing and breeding regulations. Kennel vom Jägerherzen relies on results from a VJP puppy test to evaluate the inherited natural abilities and level of consistency among the litter. Although testing is not required, vom Jägerherzen strongly encourages puppy buyers to at least prepare for and run their pup in a VJP which will aid in puppy development as it is exposed to game and learns how to use its nose, concentrate, search and point and hunt for and with its handler. Training for the HZP advanced puppy test will result in a useful versatile hunting companion for many seasons to come and will not only enhance the bond between you and your better trained hunting partner, it is an achievement to be proud of. The JGHV testing program is a performance based testing system with regulations established designed to demonstrate and improve upon inherited qualities while determining the success of past and future breeding programs. As a member of Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika, Deutsch Langhaar vom Jägerherzen adheres to all DLV and JGHV Test Regulations. The JGHV is the umbrella organization in Germany for all hunting dog clubs. The JGHV provides the test regulations, authorizes the judges, and maintains the test records for member breed clubs. The JGHV is considered to be THE umbrella organization for German hunting breeds and it’s objectives under the by-laws and organizational structure make it truly a unique worldwide entity. The successful completion of JGHV performance tests is required to identify the dog's natural abilities and suitability to hunt. The Natural Ability Test (VJP) is conducted in the spring for the DL whelped prior to October 1st of the previous year. The VJP measures the inherited natural ability of the puppy when it is essentially untrained. At this point in puppy development, the dog should have been exposed to and demonstrated the ability to track and point furred game and search and point for feathered game. The puppy test is designed to evaluate a DL’s inherited abilities in search, tracking, nose, pointing and cooperation. The VJP is unique in the testing world as the only testing system that utilizes and emphasizes tracking proficiency of wild game. The Advanced
Natural Ability Test (HZP) is conducted in fall of the same calendar
year as the VJP. Called the Fall Breed Test, it is for the 75% trained
dog and evaluates inherited qualities in addition to retrieving tasks.
Desire and obedience are also evaluated. Essentially a retrieving reliability
test, it also indirectly measures trainability. |
